Sandra M. Curcio

Executive Director

 

As the Executive Director, Ms. Curcio develops programs grounded in the independent living philosophy; closely monitors staff, making sure that they have opportunities to learn and to be involved in advocacy. She is the fund raising arm of CUCIL and has been involved with the center since its beginning in 2001.

 
 
Jhilma Miranda

Independent Living Specialist /Program Manager 

 

Jhilma is a native Spanish speaker and assists consumers in that language when needed; gives support to consumers in developing a plan to attain goals which will enhance the consumer's independence. As a Specialist, she makes assessments and determines need for services and works with consumers in learning the skills to advocate for themselves. As a Program Manager she, supervises as well as evaluates staff performance and provides direction in the absence of the Executive Director.

Receptionist (Morning) 

 

Assists anyone who walks in; answers incoming telephone calls, handles inquiries about CUCIL, and forwards questions to the appropriate staff member as necessary. Our receptionist supports the Center staff with clerical duties and always with a big smile!

Receptionist  (Afternoon) 

Marco performs administrative and office support activities for our Executive Director; meets the public and acts as the receptionist. He gives information and refers inquiries to the appropriate parties.

Marco speaks Spanish and English.

 

  

 

Veronica Anaya

Life Skills Trainer/Community Integration Coordinator

 

Veronica instructs Independent Living Skills classes on an individual and group basis; arranges culturally competent services to clients regardless of race, religion, disability, or sexual orientation; has knowledge of community resources; plans, organizes, and implements Community Integration activities; surveys recreational facilities for ADA compliance; plans, organizes, and implements Peer Support Group meetings; and develops, edits, and maintains activity calendars and CUCIL’s newsletter.

  

 

 

Sunny Todhunter

Nursing Facilities Transition Specialist 

 

Sunny assists consumers in accessing and coordinating all necessary supports and services needed to successfully transition from institutional settings to community-based, independent living situations. She provides training and support throughout the transition process. Additionally – she assists individuals in avoiding initial placement in a nursing facility or institution. Sunny spearheads the Center’s public policy advocacy efforts on the local, state and federal levels.

 

 

Cristina Pitts

ADA Specialist/Outreach Coordinator

 

Cristina provides Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) services to consumers, businesses and local units of government. She offers on-sight assessment on accessibility for businesses in an effort to assist them be ADA compliant. She educates the community through presentations, by promoting the Independent Living values and beliefs which include understanding the Act. Cristina is fluent in Spanish and she connects with the Latino community in a tri-county area.

 

 

Donny Kaufman

Assistive Technology Coordinator

 

When a consumer requests assistive technology the IL Specialist will give a referral to Donny. Donny will then work with vendors and other experts to get an assessment done in the home or living space of the specific consumer and help them make an educated decision on what equipment they will get. He will then send in his recommendations - while the consumer waits for their request to be approved he will work with the Loan Bank Coordinator to come up with a temporary solution to get them by.

We are not able to do work that does not meet code and requests are based upon available funding.

Equipment Loan Bank Coordinator/ Van Driver

 

As Loan Bank Coordinator, Rafael will get referrals from the IL Specialists as well as the AT Coordinator for equipment that people need on a temporary basis.  A Drivers License or ID is required as well as an alternate contact person in order to process this request. 

As the Van Driver, Rafael works with the Life Skills Trainer to help consumers who would otherwise not be able to make it to the Center's social activities as a result of their disability or other transportation issues. The Center’s philosophy is independence and that one should pursue their own transportation plans before making a request to be transported. 

You must be a CUCIL consumer to access rides.

Independent Living Specialist /Nursing Facilities Transition Specialist 

  

In this combined position, Wendy can assist CUCIL to reach out and serve people with disabilities in the rural areas. She assesses consumer’s needs to create an individualized plan designed to provide the tools necessary for maximum independence and community participation. As a Nursing Facility Transition Specialist, she assists consumers who are living in nursing homes by providing service and support systems to help them live independently.  
 

 

 

Becky Halliday

Accountant/Bookkeeper 

  

Becky manages all aspects of the accounting information system; processes accounts payable, accounts receivable, assists with payroll and creates grant reimbursement requests. She creates all unaudited financial reports, analyses and creates annual budgets with management, assists in administrating human resource activities, and assists with special projects as assigned.

 

 

Marie Andersen

AmeriCorp VISTA Volunteer

 

As an Easter Seals volunteer she is engaged in ongoing efforts to reach the community by working on a project that involves evaluating outreach practices and will implement a process to identify potential avenues for awareness growth. Marie also provides communication and coordination support for the Peer Mentor Committee. She has been with the Center as a volunteer since June 2005, and is always glad to help where she is needed.

AmeriCorp VISTA Volunteer

 

As a Vista volunteer he/she will work on a project for the center that involves helping develop an outreach marketing plan in underserved areas. The project, for CUCIL, entails reinforcing and assessing the outreach services offered at the center.

Administrative Assistant

  

Lynna does case management, assists with office duties, organizes and files, and acts as relief receptionist. She is able to assist wherever needed.
