Peer Support

A person with a disability may encounter barriers in their daily lives which may prevent them from living independently in the least restrictive environment. CUCIL has a program that links an individual with someone who has experienced the same or similar barriers. In doing this, Peer Support is built to aid the individual in overcoming the barrier and increasing their independence.

Peer Mentoring

Services may be provided by staff or volunteer with a disability who has received appropriate training.

Examples:

  • Peer support to assist in coping with a disability
  • Peer support to assist in goal setting
  • Peer support as a role model/mentor.
